Industry-Embedded Doctoral School – The second call for applications at Wrocław Tech

Wrocław University of Science and Technology announces the second call for applications for the Industry-Embedded Doctoral School, one of the crucial initiatives within the framework of the project.

The Industry-Embedded Doctoral School is a flagship component of the Unite.WIDENING project. It is designed to directly support doctoral students from Widening countries—specifically Poland and Portugal—who are conducting research in strategic areas relevant to both countries. This research must be carried out in collaboration with industry and under the academic supervision of a second supervisor affiliated with a Unite! alliance university located in a non-Widening country.

The first call for applications took place in 2025. Doctoral candidates qualified for the support, were selected through a competitive application process, conducted separately by Wrocław University of Science and Technology and Universidade de Lisboa. As a result, 2 candidates at Wrocław Tech were accepted.

As some places remain unfilled, Wrocław Tech is launching the second call for applications for the increased scholarship. The number of places is limited to 5.

The initiative is addressed to the doctoral students from Wrocław Tech on the first year of education. The other criteria include:

Mandatory requirements:
  • The doctoral dissertation topic must align with at least one of the following strategic areas defined for the project:
    • Health & Biotech
    • Urban and Resources Sustainability
    • Circular Economy & Materials
    • Digital & Autonomous Technologies
  • The candidate must have a second supervisor from a Unite! alliance university based in a non-Widening country.
  • The candidate’s research must include an active collaboration with industry.
Detailed evaluation criteria:
  • Relevance of the dissertation topic to the given strategic area
  • Novelty of the dissertation concept
  • Scientific cooperation with a Unite! alliance university
  • Exposure of the research project to industry challenges
  • Scientific achievements and motivation of the candidate

To apply, a candidate must submit the application including a description of their research, proving its connection with industry and presenting their motivation to join the project. The deadline for submitting the application is:

16 February 2026.

Each application will be assessed by an appointed selection committee The final assessment will be calculated as a weighted sum based on the significance of each criterion.
