From Ideas to Impact: Building Skills, Networks, and Collaboration through UNITE!Widening Training Series

Share this:

In today’s rapidly evolving research landscape, innovative ideas alone are often insufficient for success; researchers also require the appropriate skills, networks, and institutional support. In response to this need, the UNITE! Widening Training Series provides a comprehensive, international learning programme designed to strengthen the capabilities of researchers at all career stages. Spanning disciplines, geographic regions, and academic roles, the programme offers a structured environment where professional development intersects with collaboration, practical knowledge is applied in real-world contexts, and participation contributes to the establishment of enduring research partnerships.

Programme Overview

The UNITE! Widening Training Series is an intensive skills development programme for researchers from universities in the UNITE! alliance, scheduled for 2026–2027.
It consists of 21 training events for researchers at all career stages – from doctoral candidates to full professors. The programme is designed to strengthen researchers’ competencies – primarily at Wrocław Tech and ULisboa – while also creating a space for knowledge exchange and building long-term collaboration networks.

Thematic scope

The thematic scope is very broad and covers, among others: research career development, grant writing, open science, international collaboration, organisational culture, research rankings and visibility, new teaching and training models, and many other topics. The trainings are highly practice-oriented, based on workshops, case studies, work on participants’ own projects, and the exchange of good practices.

Who is it for?

The programme is aimed mainly at researchers from ULisboa and Wrocław Tech, with the possibility of participation from other UNITE! universities. Each training offers an opportunity for around 20 participants to gain new skills, expand their international networks, and receive support in their scientific development.

Where and when do the training sessions take place?
The trainings are held on-site at universities in the UNITE! alliance (including Wrocław, Lisbon, Barcelona, Graz, Darmstadt, Helsinki/Espoo, Grenoble, Stockholm, Turin). The training cycle runs from April 2026 until the end of 2027, and each training follows a three-day “lunch-to-lunch” format. Recruitment for each event opens approximately 2–3 months before the starting date.

Why should you take part?

  • Participating universities cover travel and accommodation costs, allowing participants to fully focus on their professional development and networking.
  • It is a unique opportunity to strengthen key research competencies, build international partnerships, and co-create future projects within the UNITE! alliance.
