On September 29, 2025, the National Contact Points (NCPs) for EU Research Programmes from Poland, Czechia, Portugal, and Romania will host the International Information Day on the European Excellence Initiative (EEI).

Organized within the Horizon Europe–funded Unite!WIDENING project, the event aims to strengthen institutions from Widening countries by fostering excellence in open science and innovation through knowledge sharing, training, and collaboration.

As part of the Unite! Widening project (Task 2.5), an online Open Science Policy Forum among EU Alliances was successfully held on May 22, 2025, bringing together 42 participants across Europe to accelerate and spark the development of a European Open Science and Innovation Area among Widening and non-Widening countries. Led by Aalto University, ULisboa, and WroclawTech, the forum featured contributions from eight EU Alliances: EELISA, ENHANCE, ENLIGHT, EUGLOH, PIONEER, T4EU, UNITE!, and YUFE.
On April 3rd, 2025, experts from Unite! participated in Workshop 3: Responsible Knowledge Transfer in Higher Education, held in collaboration with the EUTOPIA Alliance.
Experts from Unite! have joined forces with the University alliance EUTOPIA to discuss a macro-level perspective on European and Global policies and approaches to Knowledge and Technology Transfer and to consider the interaction between policy and practice. The workshop provided a valuable platform to examine how policy and practice intersect, and to reflect on the responsibilities of higher education institutions in shaping ethical, effective, and sustainable knowledge exchange.
Wrocław University of Science and Technology, in cooperation with Universidade de Lisboa, is pleased to announce the launch of the call for applications for the Industry-Embedded Doctoral School, an initiative within the framework of the Unite.WIDENING project.
The Unite! Widening project is proud to announce the definition of four Strategic Research Areas, developed through a rigorous analysis of institutional strengths, research performance indicators, and alignment with EU policy goals. These areas not only reflect the most promising domains within our partner universities—ULisboa and WroclawTech—but also support Europe’s broader ambitions for sustainable growth, innovation, and resilience.
Unite.WIDENING project offers direct support for PhD students from Wrocław Tech and ULisboa who conducts their scientific research in the areas, defined as strategic for Poland and Portugal. In the coming weeks, a call for applications will be announced. Selected candidates may receive an extra scholarship for developing their research in cooperation with industry and supervisor from Unite! university.
